Notes on affiliation

Local Affiliated Organisations

This note is intended to clarify the status of affiliated organisations (such as walking clubs) and their members.
 

Such organisations are mostly local rambling clubs, but may also include other appropriate societies, and local Parish or Community Councils.

These clubs are affiliated at Area level, and are not associated with Groups. Although they will have some representation on Area Council, they should not be regarded as in any way equivalent to Groups, which are, of course, a component part of the Ramblers’ Association.

Members of affiliated organisations are not thereby members of the Ramblers’ Association. Affiliation to the RA does not confer any benefits to the individual members of the affiliated body, and, in particular, members of affiliates are not entitled to any greater participation in RA Group activities than any other non-members. For example, if they are interested in walking with a Group they should be asked to join the RA as individual members after trying out a couple of walks.
